Find your way out of a mysterious forest in CAT WORLD, a narrative puzzle-adventure game for Playdate. You play as Ember, a lost kitten making their way across a strange land, loosely based off sketches I made as a kid.

The first chapter is a free download and around fifteen minutes long. There is an auto-save between rooms, so you don't need to complete it in one sitting.

The second chapter is around forty minutes long and its price includes any future chapters. (At least two more chapters are planned, though no guarantees when or if those might happen.)

What random people on twitter are saying about CAT WORLD:

"This is what the @playdate is all about…simple RPG, weird but cute art, clever writing" — Gordon Ryan

"Memorable visuals, funny characters, weird in all of the right ways" - Nate

Hi! I've been really enjoying Cat World so far (esp. the log puzzles and side character dialog). Would you mind if I linked a video to a bug? I will link it below. If you would like me to remove it I will. Dunno, kind of nervous lol.

Anyway, link!

Oh man! This is an amazing sequence breaking bug! I wonder if you could use it to skip parts of the chapter? Anyway I guess I will fix it in a future update. Thank you for letting me know!

I finally got around to fixing this, in today’s v1.1 update. Thanks again for letting me know!

Are there patch notes for v1.1 or was that the only change?

That and a small easter egg for the bunny bundle!

Nice!

Clever puzzles and fun writing!

hi - I pre order but when will the game be available ?

Hello! Thank you for preordering, it means a lot to me! I am still hoping to release the game by the end of the month, but if it is taking longer I will be sure to send an update to everyone who has preordered. Thank you for bearing with me!

Sounds good - happy holidays !

Happy holidays to you too!

I loved this and can't wait for the next chapter. The puzzle mechanics, backstory and characters made for a really engaging play-through and left me really wanting to play the next chapter/s.  So much potential to develop it - please do! (no pressure...)

really nice game - good narrative and funny - nice graphics - I really enjoy it - and like many others, can't wait for other chapters :)

I just start playing and can't stop it!!! Very exciting waiting for the next chapter. Thanx a lot!!

This was a fun little demo, I really can't wait until you finish it. I see alot of potential here.

Until the day you finish it, I'll have to continue to play Skwish, stuck on #34 right now.

My review of Cat World.

Thanks for sharing! I love watching people play through the game.

I really enjoyed the experience overall. The soundtrack, art and writing are all really great! The screenshots really don't do justice to how much heart was clearly put into this game. Can't wait for the next chapter!

Thank you so much for recording this play through! Glad you enjoyed it too! Do you mind if I feature the video on the itch.io page?

That would be fine! I'll keep an eye out for Chapter 2 as well!

That was fun! I’m Looking forward to watching the story progress!

Thanks! I’m working on chapter 2 now! Now-ish anyway.

Created an account just to say, this game is tight!!! Great use of pixel art, everything is vibrant and easy to recognize, and cute, to boot ;) The puzzles are just the perfect amount of effort, and every time I thought, "oh no, I locked myself out of winning", it never happened. Gameplay is narrative focused, and the side quests make sense without being too much. The way the tension builds up with little clues about the thing "off screen" from the beginning to the end is very well done. Looking forward to more from you!

*edited because I thought a word I used might be a bit spoilery

This comment means everything to me! Thanks for playing :-)

Haha, of course, and thanks for putting your creativity and hard work into the world!

Loved it! Had me thinking in a few places but I really enjoyed my time with it. I'm ready for Chapter 2 already!

Thanks! Watch this space!!

Will do!

Really liking this so far! One note, I saved after getting the axe, loaded it later, and got the message about finding the radio again when I entered this screen, even though I already found it. Only weird thing I've noticed, hope to see more of this game!

Thanks, good catch!

Update: this should be fixed in v0.2, thanks again for flagging!

Awesome! Can't wait to see more from you!
